Entry 2: Purpose? Who Needs a Purpose?
Note To Readers
Now, I know when Mr. Perlman reads this he will become very angry, but here it goes anyway. Not all things have a greater meaning, an idea which I feel Language Arts teachers either do not understand, or just do not care.
Wait, Teachers Are Good At Their Jobs
Dang it, Mr. Perlman wins again. Of course everything has a deeper meaning, even card throwing, otherwise I would not be able to choose this as a topic. Card throwing may not reach the bottom of the ocean as books like Les Miserables might, but it does have some significance.

Get To The Point
As I was saying, card throwing has a deeper meaning, or at least the way I am preforming it. Everything in the world has some sort of significance, the most common ones are skill building, such as school, that has surface meaning of education and knowledge, but holds the deeper meaning of social skills, and study skills. Card throwing is similar to school, in the fact that it teaches patience, precision, timing, and persistence. And obviously it will teach you how to throw a card, or preform a card trick, or some other surface meaning.
Passion
What is passion? Well one definition is "passion can range from eager interest in or admiration for
an idea, proposal, or cause; to enthusiastic enjoyment of an interest or
activity", so to simplify that, an activity that you enjoy, no matter how much. I am not sure if any of the readers know me too well, but let us just say that I am not that good at sports. I have the energy span of about 30 seconds when actually exercising, as I run out of breath easily. But the one thing I do have is accuracy when throwing, I used to love playing Baseball, as I could hit the ball pretty consistently, except that I could not run fast enough to get to the base before getting out. Also, I did not have enough arm strength to throw the ball far, but the one thing I did have, was accuracy, throughout playing Baseball, I never missed a target, I may not have thrown far enough because of my strength, but I never missed. (Slight exaggeration by the way, everyone misses).
Relevance
What does this have to do with card throwing? Well I am glad you asked, (I am talking to myself, someone call a therapist, here is the website https://fairviewcounseling.com/), card throwing is very aggravating, because effort does not matter, the only thing that matters is technique. I have spent a good while sitting in my room, tiring my arm out trying to throw cards, then I get tired and throw it with little to no energy, and it goes at a supersonic speed. As I have said in my previous blog post, it is about the flick of the wrist, or more specifically, the spin of the card, the more spin, the faster and more accurately the card will go.
Check Up
My progress is going steady so far, but I do fear that difficulties may arise soon, if you are not aware, my goals are as follows:
Figure out a technique that works for me February 27th
Becoming consistent with that technique March 6th
Being able to hit specific targets accurately March 13th
Being able to throw a card into Styrofoam March 20th
Being able to throw a card into Cardboard March 27th
Being able to throw a card into an Apple April 3rd
Obviously these goals will change depending on how well or horribly I am doing, but as of now I am on schedule, as tomorrow I want to become consistent with the Thurston grip, and a throwing method that has been provided to me by our very own, Chris Suh, who honestly is amazing at throwing cards. So there you go, this is blog post number two, and thank you for reading.
Wow! My brother has always wanted to card throw, and he was halfway there (but he stopped)--it's really hard to find a technique. I hope you can find what is best for you, and I'm excited to see you do your trick! If I'm being honest, all the cards that I've attempted to throw boomerangs back to me....
ReplyDeleteAnyway, don't give up! Sounds amazing. Can't wait!
I never (well, rarely) get angry. I like the approach to the post. Would love to see your progress.
